This project proposes a redesigned wayfinding and signage system for Central Park Zoo, aiming to enhance the visitor experience — especially for children — through playful visuals, intuitive navigation, and site-specific graphic elements.
Inspired by the spirit of exploration, the system integrates pictograms, directional markers, and discovery-based signage to foster a sense of spatial engagement throughout the zoo.
During my site visit to Central Park Zoo, I conducted on-site observation and photographed the existing wayfinding system. While some signage provided clear directional cues and maps with key information, I also noticed several issues. Many signs had low visibility — blending into the environment or placed too high for kids. Others were text-heavy and lacked engaging or playful elements that could support independent navigation for younger visitors. These insights informed the direction of my redesign.
